One of WWF’s (World Wildlife Fund) recent promotional campaign encouraged people to ‘help save the kitchen table‘.

The message the poster is trying to share – use the forests wisely. Furniture and many other products made from trees and wood are contributing to the disappearance of forests worldwide, and this in turn affects animals and people who depend on the forests for their livelihood.

There are many different ways you can do your part to save the forests, and here at Used Furniture Singapore, we encourage re-using and recycling of second hand furniture, to conserve natural resources and minimise wastage. The benefits of buying, selling, and using pre-owned furniture goes beyond positively impacting the environment, it is also good for your wallet.

There’s an interesting statistic published by the NEA (National Environment Agency) in 2011, it revealed that the total amount of waste produced in Singapore that year amounted to 6,898,300 tonnes. Materials commonly used in furniture like wood, plastics, and leather/textile made up over 1,000,000 tonnes of waste (source).

When you decide to incorporate used furniture into your home and lifestyle, you’re casting your vote for the environment, sustainability and green living. There are many types of durable furniture that can be reused, recycled, and refurbished; and with a little care and attention, they can be as good as new. See some of our related articles -
